Sir William Grierson, 2nd Baronet

Sir William Grierson, 2nd Baronet of Lag ( – 1760) was the son of Sir Robert Grierson of Lag, 1st Bt (b. 1657; died 29 December 1733, buried at Dunscore Parish Kirkyard), and Lady Henrietta Douglas. He was taken prisoner at the 1st Jacobite Rebellion of 1715; married Dame Anne Musgrave, daughter of Sir Richard Musgrave, 2nd Baronet and Dorothy James, on 1 September 1720 at Aspartria, Cumberland, England. He fathered at least two illegitimate children.
Grierson was a Commissioner of Supply in 1704. He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire () from 1709 to February 1711. After his involvement in the 1715 Jacobite Uprising he was pardoned in 1724. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Grierson, of Lag, co. Dumfries (1685 ) on the death of his father Sir Robert Grierson in 1733.
Grierson died in 1760 and was buried at Dunscore Parish Kirkyard.
He was succeeded by his younger brother's son, Sir Robert Grierson, 3rd Baronet, of Lag, born c. 1700, died childless in 1764. Robert Grierson was the only surviving son of James Grierson (2nd son of Sir Robert Grierson, 1st Bart.), born c. 1679, Scotland (he died April, 1721) and who married Elizabeth Ferguson, daughter of Ferguson of Isle. James Grierson lived at Laghall with his wife, Elizabeth Ferguson, and he attended for two year Scots' College in Douai, France. His occupation is unknown, but his younger brother, John Grierson (died 23 February 1730, also reported to have died on 16 March 1730 in error) was an apothecary in Carlisle.
